Isle school creates its own spiders
Nineteen pupils from Westwoodside Primary School enjoyed a workshop led by Janine Knight, an artist from the Ropewalk, Barton, when she visited recently. Using willow frames, children aged four to five wound wool under and over thread to produce web effects.
The crowning glory to their work was the winding of wool around bottle tops to conjure up spiders for the webs. Eight long legs and two goggly eyes finished off each creation.

Weaving supports early writing and fine motor skills, and spiders’ webs appealed to both boys and girls. We challenge friends to visit our spiders webs if you dare!”
