Hide AdThese, and the other wild creatures he painted, especially hares, needed his skills and knowledge as a naturalist, silently finding, following and portraying.
His fluent works along with landscapes from his favourite valley Cressbrookdale are brought together in this fascinating exhibition.
He was the first to paint live butterflies in flight and featured in the programme David’s Meadow, for David Bellamy’s BBC TV series Bellamy’s Britain in the 1970s.
David once said: “My work tends to be raw-alive; here in one moment, gone the next: just as one’s own life races on before you.”
He passed away in 2011, aged 73.
