Doubts over efficiency of beach renourishment scheme in East Lindsey
In order to raise sea defences, beaches in Mablethorpe, Skegness and elsewhere have undergone replenishment since 1992 with sand dredged from the sea bed.
In response to a question from public member Ray Drewery, council leader Coun Craig Leyland revealed the Lincshore Beach Renourishment Project had cost £150-million since began. The work is costing £7-million a year and funding is not guaranteed after 2017-18. The leader said ELDC was “not in a position” to pay £1-million per annum requested by DEFRA to meet the shortfall.
