Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has died at the age of 99
The Royal Family issued the statement on Twitter just after 12pm.
In the statement it said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

Hide AdThe Duke of Edinburgh was 99-years-old and had spent recent months in hospital.
He was first taken in to King Edward VII’s Hospital on February 16 as a precaution after feeling unwell. He was then transferred to St Bartholomew’s Hospital for continued treatment for a heart condition, before going back to King Edward VII’s Hospital. He only left the hospital on March 16.
Philip, 99, was the longest-serving consort in British history.
The Duke and the Queen were married for more than 70 years and Philip dedicated decades of his life to royal duty, serving the nation at the monarch’s side.
