Police confirm they had NOT checked the scene of Amber Peat’s body discovery
National reports emerged that officers had combed the overgrown area, which sits on a patch of grass to the rear of a property between Westfield Lane and Parliament Road, and perhaps missed the body of the 13-year-old.
The police had remained quiet over whether the area had been checked, but confirmed this afternoon to Chad that they had not been in that specific area before she was found on Tuesday evening.

He was kept abreast of the operation, which included officers heading to Scotland to trace Amber’s biological father, and to Cornwall where the family had just returned from holiday.
“The police had been in touch with me, day and night since the Sunday,” said Mr Meale.
“Within a short space of time with her going missing, things were happening and there was a lot of involvement.

Concerning the police’s apparent initial reluctance to confirm if they had searched the area where her body was found, he said: “They are trying to establish details and time for a report to the go the coroner, and were looking at the material evidence.
“Even if they had searched the areas, who’s to say that she was there Saturday or Sunday night?
“It is the most unusual place for someone to be.”
