Retford: Large local turnout for first public meeting of Bassetlaw anti-fracking campaign group
The group has been set up in response to increased fears that Bassetlaw is to be targeted for the controversial fracking activity in the future, fears that have increased following the announcement that DART Energy will be drilling for coal samples at Danesehill Energy Forest in Sutton-cum-Lound.
The meeting at Retford was addressed by both David Burley from Frack Free South Yorkshire and Brian Davey from Frack Free Nottinghamshire.

“And David spoke about the dangers to the environment and people from fracking and coal bed methane extraction and also put forward the view that burning more hydrocarbons would contribute to climate change, something the Government had claimed to be trying to prevent.”
“We also want to highlight that the promise of jobs is not what will really happen as most work will be done by experts in the techniques from the USA.”
“We feel a better source of long-term jobs locally would be to invest in renewable technology.”
