Runners brave elements for half marathon event
And there were 100 competitors involved in the Family Fun Run.
Coun Carol Palmer, mayor of Retford, joined chairman of Bassetlaw Council Coun Ian Campbel to officially start the event on Ordsall Road.

Hide AdThe first man back to East Retford Rugby Club and the finish line was Ben Beattie of Hallamshire Harriers who finished in a time of 1:12:56.
Jenny Blizard of Rotherham Harriers and AC was first lady in 1:24:03.

Co-organisers Retford Athletic Club were well represented by 21 runners.

Hide AdBen Harris was first back for the Retford men finishing in sixth place in an excellent time of 1:15:02, with Becky Chadwick finishing in 118th place in a time of 1:40:08.

In the Fun Run Retford AC took a clean sweep with Jessica Dewsbury finishing first, followed by Samuel Roberts and Llyr Ap Geraint.
Outwood Academy Valley won the team trophy as the first school to have three students crossing the finishing line.

Hide AdDavid Corbett, race director was full of praise for everyone involved: “On behalf of East Retford Rugby Club and Retford Athletic Club I would like to thank all the runners and their supporters, the army of volunteers and helpers who helped to put on the event, in particular all the marshals and drink station helpers including Luke Lambert of Asda East Retford, and the presidents of East Retford Rugby Club (Chris Mounsey), Retford Athletic Club (Dorothy Shirley) and Carol Palmer and Ian Cambell for giving out the prizes.”
