03/09/08 - Bollards idea to help traders in car parking row

BOLLARDS could be installed in Caistor Market Place to stop cars from being parked on Friday nights.
The idea is being put forward as one option in response to complaints by traders at the town's Saturday market that they can't set up their stalls because of cars parked there.
Even though there have been frequent appeals for drivers not to park there on a Saturday, the problem hasn't eased and last month a trader couldn't find space to put up his stall because of parked cars.
Traders are now asking councillors to display signs in the Market Place saying that cars should not be parked there on a Saturday morning.
Councillors said many cars were parked there on a Friday night and not removed and not just on a Saturday morning.
They agreed one option would be to have fold down bollards which could be put upright to prevent cars getting access.
The council has asked Lincolnshire County Council if these are feasible within the town centre renovation scheme due to start in the autumn.
