The 360-hectare (900-acre) beauty spot near Wragby has been rated as one of the best Forestry Commission sites in the UK for its insect life.


Now rangers are staging a crafty event on Saturday 16 August to celebrate. Ranger Mary Porter explained: “We’ll be enjoying fun and games and making a chrysalis out of cardboard and paper, complete with an emerging butterfly. It’s a brilliant way to find out more about wildlife and discover why Chambers is such a butterfly hotspot.”


Rangers will also be shedding light on aquatic creatures with a pond dipping session on Saturday August 23. Scores of ponds have been created in Chambers to broaden habitats and the search will be on for dragonfly nymphs, water boatmen and even leeches!


Both events run from 10am to 12 noon and booking is required on 01526 399943. The butterfly morning costs £3.50 and pond dipping just £2. Children must be accompanied.
