Youngsters organise cancer charity walk
THREE youngsters from a Linwood family organised a sponsored walk to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support as a 'thank you' for all their help after their father was diagnosed with cancer.
Sarah (15), Matthew (13) and William (11) Fawcett found the help and advice from Macmillan nurses in the hospital where their dad Paul was receiving treatment, so helpful, they decided off their own initiative to organise the walk through six miles of Willingham Woods.
They also took some of their friends along on Saturday to raise even more money.
They didn’t even tell their parents they were doing it and mum Jennie only discovered about it a few days before the event.
“It’s just a thank you,” said Sarah. “We were able to ask them questions we just weren’t able to ask our parents.”
Although dad Paul is now well on the way to recovery from his illness - Non Hodgkinsons Lymphona - he still has to go to hospital every two weeks and, as Jennie said, ‘has had some horrible times’.
“I’m just so proud of them, taking the initiative themselves and drafting in their friends. It is a real indication of how grateful we are afor all the support we’ve had,” she said.
Paul is very proud of his kids. “I think they’re great,” he said. “They’ve helped us and it’s nice to give something back.”
l The youngsters are hoping to raise around £400. If you would like to boost their total drop into the Rasen Mail office or give us a call and we will put you intouch with the family.
