A FIRE ENGINE was stranded by the roadside after being involved in the clean up of a road traffic collision on Friday.

The Wragby appliance was called to an accident on the A158 Bullington, in which a motorbike and car collided.

After developing an electrical fault which prevented crews from starting it up again, the fire engine caused a minor traffic diusruption whilst waiting for an engineer to be called out.

One firefighter who needed to get back to Wragby quickly hitched a ride in a traffic officers Subaru Impreza.

Two bikers, a rider and passenger from Chesterfield, were rushed to hospital with suspected leg injuries but the car driver was uninjured. The road was closed for an hour.
