THE Waverley Court Antiques Centre alongside the Rasen Mail offices in Market Rasen is set to be replaced by a terrace of five starter homes.
Town councillors were broadly supportive of owner Dave Robinson’s plan which also includes conversion of a barn behind Jossals into a sixth home.
But they were anxious about extra traffic movements from the narrow access lane onto Queen Street a
nd keen that an extra pedestrian gate should be installed into the wall that would replace the front of the existing warehouse at the end of Waverley Court, to enable residents to better escape if there was a fire.
Councillors are also eager for them to be low-cost homes.
Four of the houses would be two-bedroomed, with the fifth having one bedroom. Gardens would be small and there would be no designated parking - instead householders would be able to park behind the cats charity shop or expected to use public parking in town.
Councillor Austin Chater said that the asbestos roofed building has been ‘ripe for demolition for 30 years’ and in his supporting statements Mr Robinson says that in place of ‘an untidy building that has potential to become detrimental to the character of the area’ there will be something that has ‘a positive impact on the economy of the area’, built in red brick with sliding sash windows.
Final decision on the plans will be made by West Lindsey District Council.
